I see my lovely shovelsandrope friends in here! Gorgeous!

Song of the Day = Birmingham by @shovelsandrope (I’ve loved this duet since I saw them open for Butch Walker a few years ago and it’s so much fun to watch them grow and sell out shows of their own in Atlanta and Athens. Now, they’re making their national television debut on Letterman. If you’re not familiar, do yourself a favor and get some Shovels & Rope in your life. Cary Ann and Michael’s solo records are amazing too. I just can’t help but think this is something my godfather, Bryan, would have enjoyed.

Monday night at the Saxon Pub. Another school night. Why’s it always gotta be a school night? At least I’m not really in school. I work though, and 5 AM seems to show up earlier and earlier each day. Still, it’s Shovels & Rope so… yeah, there is no room for debate when it comes to Cary Ann…

A @shovelsandrope documentary you say? Why yes, I’ll take one of those with a @butchwalker documentary to go please…

A Shovels and Rope documentary?! This makes me happy.

Bonus silly fangirl moment: I’m wearing my Shrimp Record tee shirt today.

The @impalerspeaks and I had way too much fun at this show. Especially for a school night. The Shovels & Rope set was a late night addition which found them taking the stage around 12:30 am. We were already ridiculously jazzed after a beautiful set from Gary and Luke Nicholson and Kevin and Dustin Welch. (See previous entry…) so by the time Michael and Cary Ann took the stage, we were positively giddy.

Now, I was super excited at this last minute addition to the tour schedule. I was visiting Austin for a series of job interviews, so having the opportunity to catch a set by one of my favorite bands before I left and the SXSW juggernaut hit town, was just an epic coincidence. The fact that I got to hear Boxcar, Who’s Gonna Raise These Babies? and Hollowpoint Blues at such a great venue in the wee hours of Tuesday night/Wednesday morning made it that much more of an adventure. Lord knows that it was worth giving up a full night’s sleep for such a great show. I’m just glad I didn’t have to get up for work the next morning like my friend, The Impaler. That man definitely has more stamina than I do. Major kudos to you my friend. Check out his write up of the show. As I’ve stated before, he’s much better at writing about such things than I am.

@shovelsandrope @saxonpub On March 6, 2012, Shovels & Rope played at the legendary Saxon Pub in Austin, Texas. When the day began, it was a Tuesday much like any other Tuesday. I went to work, got something to eat, figured I’d get some sleep. Then I learned that Michael Trent and
