Song Of The Day = Raging Child by Mary Fahl
I fell in love with Mary’s voice the first time I heard October Project’s “Return To Me” on 99X back in 1993. There were only 2 October Project albums with Mary on lead vocals before the band disbanded and reformed a few years later as November Project with mary Anne Marino on lead vocals. Mary Fahl released the solo record, The Other Side of Time, in 2003, giving me another taste of the voice I had fallen in love with 10 years prior. This is my favorite song off of that record.
Mary’s voice is extraordinary, but definitely unique. I’ve had friends that have complained that it’s just “too weird” of a voice to be enjoyable. To each their own, but I strongly disagree. Her voice is the very definition of “haunting” and there are days where I literally crave hearing it. I sing along, knowing that I can never sound anything like her, and it just makes my heart happy.
I am so excited that her interpretation of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon” has finally been released. It’s been in limbo since 2006 and I was pleased to discover today that I could get it on Amazon! I know I’ll be listening to it for the next couple of days, so you’ll probably be graced with some more Mary Fahl in the next couple of weeks.
Song of the Day = Dark Time by October Project
Song of the Day = Bury My Lovely by October Project (Both albums by this band are spectacular. I don’t think I ever left home in the 90’s without taking at least one of these albums with me.)
